Finding the perfect foundation for your skin type can be a trying process. In addition to hiding blemishes and keeping away from irritants, dry, oily skin and sensitive skin each requires their own special attention. We have gathered some of the best foundation liquids and powders for different skin types for you to try with your next makeup purchase. Don’t worry, we have the best drugstore foundations as well as the top of the line foundations, fit for every budget:
1. Mac Select Sheer-Pressed Powder
There is a reason this powder foundation is described as next to naked – it gives your face a flawless, natural finish! It goes on smoothly with a brush or sponge, without altering the color and texture of your base foundation. This is the perfect mac foundation for someone with average skin, not too oily and not too dry.
2. BareMinerals Matte Foundation
BareMinerals is our favorite mineral makeup, as they use 100% minerals in their products. The matte foundation is one of the best foundations for oily skin, as it absorbs excess oil and eliminates shine. However, if you are trying to hide blemishes, this product is probably not for you. This foundation simply enhances your beautiful, natural-looking skin with a matte finish; it is not designed to spot check.
3. Sephora Collection
Store brand is not always the best option, but Sephora makeup knows what’s up. This mist airbrush foundation is one of the best full-coverage foundations, because you get to control your coverage level. The satin finish lasts up to 10 hours, and its oil-free mist makes it ideal for both oily and dry skin.
4. L’Oréal Paris True Match
We love L’Oréal makeup, especially this True Match foundation. This is easily one of the best foundations for dry skin; its SPF and moisturizing agents keeps your skin looking healthy without clogging your pores. This foundation is especially amazing as it comes in 33 different shades, so you can match your skin tone. Remember though, this foundation is great for dry skin, but not ideal for oily skin.
5. Cover FX | Oily Acne Prone Skin
Let me start by saying that adding any type of makeup to acne prone skin could create additional irritation. However, if you need to wear foundation, we recommend using Cover FX, which is an oil-free, water-based foundati0n. It is infused with Vitamins C and E to help reduce redness and soothe inflammation, giving you less breakouts than most other foundations.
6. Cover Girl Clean
I have used this foundation for years, and have never had issues. The best makeup is lightweight and blends very easily, which describes this foundation to a tee. In addition to offering various shades, Clean is especially wonderful because it comes in three series depending on your skin type: normal skin, sensitive skin, and oil control. They are each made with different formulas to cater to your skin needs.
7. Chanel Perfection Lumiére Foundation
Although this Chanel foundation is at a higher price point, it too is ideal for all skin types. It leaves a matte finish, perfect for oily skin, while serving as a moisturizer for dry skin. Perfection Lumiére is lightweight, and hides imperfections without caking your face. We have heard nothing but positive reviews about this guy.
8. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
Bobbi Brown foundation is also on the higher end, but totally worth it. It not only looks natural, but it feels natural to the touch. It is lightweight, while hiding what it needs to without feeling heavy. This foundation comes in 20 different shades, and caters to sensitive, dry and oily skin. Heck, even Kate Middleton wears it!
9. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
This Laura Mercier product is one of the best foundations for dry, sensitive skin. It hydrates while leaving just enough tint to even out the skin tone. Did we mention it is SPF 20? That makes this one of our favorite summer foundations.
10. Clinique Pore Refining Solutions
The objective of this foundation is to downsize the appearance of pores while leaving a matte finish. Perfect for oily skin! However, if not applied correctly, this foundation could seem a little thick. Be conservative when using this foundation.
