Beauty pageants like Miss USA 2016 proved the world that it’s not just a stage for beauty and wit but also a platform for women empowerment. See how our queen showed the world how tough women are — even in their stilettos!
From a gun to a crown, another fearless queen proved that women can go as hard as men (or even more!). Female army officer and this year’s Miss USA, Deshauna Barber didn’t limit herself to break down the stereotypes about female soldiers and be a woman of power and beauty.
See How Miss USA 2016 is Changing the Beauty Pageant Game
Miss USA 2016 is a living testimony that a woman in boots and army uniform can also be a beauty in heels and glittery gowns. The 26-year-old beauty queen, Deshauna Barber aims to tell the world that not all female soldiers have the same perception in life. They can be as sturdy as military men would be and be feminine whenever they want to.
In Barber’s case, the beauty pageant became her instrument to be limitless. She said that being confidently beautiful is not always about how you look and what people say about your appearance. Through her service to the military, she learned that earning respect from other people, however you look like, is what confidently beautiful genuinely means.
Other people may see beauty as a sign of vulnerability. But because Barber is a member of the military, she was able to change this view and prove everyone that she’s strong.
According to her, “Although I am small, I’m powerful and confidently beautiful is being myself and being very happy with who I’ve become.”
After winning the precious crown, Barber plans to support the military veterans. Moreover, she also wants to have an in-depth understanding of suicide issues and disorders experienced among military members.
Before taking home the crown as Miss USA 2016, patriotism already runs in the blood of their family. She joined the military at the age of 17. Currently, she’s a logistics commander of Quartermaster Detachment Unit of US Army in Fort Meade, Maryland.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in business management in 2011 at Virginia State University. Afterwards, she took her master’s degree in management information systems at Maryland University College.
Later this year, Barber will be representing the United States in the Miss Universe 2016. She will compete for the coveted crown of the prestigious Miss Universe. Wishing you all the luck, girl!
