11 Unforgettable Oscar Dresses
The Academy Awards are just around the corner! I think you know by now that I love award shows not just for the awards, but for the red carpet fashion. And let me tell you, Oscar red carpet looks are some of my all-time favorites. While I love fun and trendy red carpet looks, there’s something extra special about the glamour of the Oscars’ red carpet. So to get us all excited for this year’s awards, let’s take a look back at some of the most beautiful Oscar dresses in recent years!
1. Michelle Williams (2006)
Talk about red carpet courage. Michelle Williams walked down the red carpet in this bright canary yellow gown by Vera Wang back in 2006. Her bravery paid off big time!
2. Angelina Jolie (2004)
Angelina Jolie is definitely one of Hollywood’s A-list celebrities that we look forward to seeing on the red carpet. Most of the time, Jolie doesn’t disappoint. She slayed this Marc Bouwer white silk gown back in 2004.
3. Nicole Kidman (2003)
Iconic actresses all have their own unforgettable Oscar fashion moments, at least when it comes to Nicole Kidman! Nicole clearly came to win that night in a black gown by Jean Paul Gaultier—she took home the award for Best Actress.
4. Julia Roberts (2001)
Julia Roberts going vintage with this black-and-white gown from Valentino gives us the old Hollywood feels. The world fell in love with this dress and I don’t know anyone who can say otherwise!
5. Marion Cotillard (2008)
When it comes to Marion Cotillard’s sense of style, it’s like the lady can do no wrong. This fish scale gown from red carpet favorite Jean Paul Gaultier is certainly unconventional but Marion Cotillard pulled it off with flying colors, making it one of the most glamorous looks in the event’s history.
6. Gwyneth Paltrow (2012)
Gwyneth Paltrow’s most recent unforgettable Oscar fashion moment was her white Tom Ford ensemble back in 2012. She only proves that great style is as timeless and enduring as her career.
7. Mila Kunis (2011)
Mila Kunis and Elie Saab were at match made in heaven at the 2011 Oscars! The color accentuated her eyes and looked perfect on her skin tone.
8. Penelope Cruz (2007)
Penelope Cruz has always been an elegant woman. But she cemented her place in fashion history with the Atelier Versace dress that literally stole the show in 2007!
9. Cameron Diaz (2010)
No best-dressed list would be complete without an appearance from Cameron Diaz. Her nude Oscar de la Renta gown was a clear winner that night.
10. Halle Berry (2002)
No one will ever forget the Elie Saab number Halle Berry wore in 2002. But did you know that this dress was Elie Saab’s first ever red carpet appearance as a designer? What a way to make a debut! It’s hard to imagine a world without Elie Saab’s feminine yet strong designs, and we have Halle Berry to thank for introducing her to us!
11. Lupita Nyong’o (2014)
While we’ve been talking about timeless gowns and Hollywood icons, there have also been countless modern classics worth mentioning! Unforgettable Oscar fashion moments happen every year, and Lupita’s jaw-dropping gown is one contemporary example. It’s such a simple gown but it fits her in all the right places, it brings out her stunning skin, and it makes her look every inch the Hollywood star she is! That’s really all anyone can ever ask for in a red carpet dress.
